No proposal to ban export of iron ore - Indian government

Indian government has said that there is no proposal to ban export of iron ore and that at present shipments of the mineral through high export tariff and freight cost are being discouraged.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia told the Rajya Sabha that "There is no proposal to ban export of iron ore. At present, export is being discouraged through higher export tariff and higher railway freight on export cargo.”

The iron ore exports are expected to come down to about 65 million tonnes in 2011-12 from 97 million tonnes in the previous fiscal due to a mining ban in Karnataka and probe initiated by mineral rich states like Odisha and Goa to check illegal mining issues.
